Carroll Senior High School junior Tatthva Sharma won a North American badminton championship Sept. 13 in California.

Sharma was one of nine players representing Frisco Badminton Academy at the inaugural Club Championship North America, held Sept. 12–13 at Manhattan Beach Badminton Club. The Frisco squad, competing as the Frisco Falcons, went unbeaten across four matches to become the tournament's first-ever champion.

The Falcons went 4–0.

Six founding clubs from the United States and Canada competed in the two-day event. Frisco opened Sept. 12 with a pair of 5–2 victories over the KC Monarchs and Bellevue Guardians.

Sept. 13 brought tighter contests. Frisco edged the GBA Titans 3–2 in the semifinal, then beat the Bellevue Guardians 3–2 again in the final, according to a Frisco Badminton Academy Facebook post. Both matches were decided on the final court.

"We knew that we weren't just competing for a medal … We were competing to make history for our club," Sharma told Southlake Style.

The tournament was organized by The Legends' Vision, an initiative co-founded by former world No. 1 Lee Chong Wei and Olympic medalist Saina Nehwal. The organization created the club championship as badminton builds toward the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, according to a post on The Legends' Vision Facebook page.

Lee Chong Wei, a three-time Olympic silver medalist who held the world No. 1 ranking for 349 weeks, presented the championship trophy and every gold medal to the Frisco players.

Sharma and her teammates also met Nehwal during the weekend.

Sharma's eight Frisco Badminton Academy teammates at the championship were Varin Karri, Carsten Lam, Srinivas Subash, Abhiram Tripuraneni, Aarya Vijay, Haziqa Mathani, Charvi Murali and Shraddha Prakash.

Frisco Badminton Academy said the championship was presented by Yonex and The Legends' Vision. The tournament's organizers have framed the event as a building block for the sport ahead of the 2028 Games in Los Angeles.
