Fred Howey, a Democrat, is seeking the 297th District Court seat in Tarrant County in the Nov. 3, 2026, election. He faces Republican Amy Allin, according to the official ballot certification.
Legal and military background
His campaign biography identifies him as a criminal defense attorney at Dunham & Jones. It describes earlier solo practice in family law, estate planning, juvenile defense and child welfare cases.
Howey says he enlisted in the Army Reserve after high school, later became an officer through ROTC and deployed to Iraq in 2005–06 as a platoon leader. His campaign also describes community service through Scouting America and volunteer work as a Teen Court judge after law school at Texas Wesleyan University.
Judicial approach
Howey says colleagues encouraged him to run because of his experience and judicial temperament. He emphasizes impartiality, the rule of law and the Constitution, rehabilitation and mercy when appropriate, and serious sentences when warranted to protect the community.
