Democrat Gisela D. Triana is running for Texas Supreme Court Place 8 in the Nov. 3, 2026 general election. The official certified ballot lists Republican Brett Busby as her opponent.

Judicial experience

The Texas Judicial Branch biography identifies Triana as a justice of the Third Court of Appeals, elected in 2018. Before that, she spent 14 years presiding over the 200th District Court and also served as a Travis County court-at-law judge, Austin municipal judge and justice of the peace.

Her earlier experience includes prosecution in the Travis County attorney’s office, work in the secretary of state’s Elections Division and private practice. The biography says she graduated from the University of Texas at San Antonio in 1985 and the University of Texas School of Law in 1988.
