Democrat James Talarico is running for U.S. Senate in Texas in the Nov. 3, 2026 general election. The official certified ballot also lists Republican Ken Paxton and Libertarian Ted Brown.

Background

His Texas House biography identifies Talarico as a former public-school teacher first elected to the Legislature in 2018. He grew up in Round Rock, graduated from McNeil High School and earned degrees at the University of Texas at Austin and Harvard University. He taught middle school in San Antonio before entering public office.

Campaign priorities

On public education, his Senate campaign proposes universal prekindergarten, expanded teacher training and protection of federal special-education support. He opposes private-school voucher programs.

His health-care platform calls for allowing people of any age to join Medicare, lower prescription-drug costs and support for rural hospitals.

His government-reform platform proposes congressional term limits, a ban on members trading individual stocks and independent redistricting commissions. These positions are drawn directly from his campaign materials.
