Tiffany Burks, a Democrat, challenges Republican incumbent Phil Sorrells for Tarrant County criminal district attorney in the Nov. 3, 2026 general election. Both appear on the Texas secretary of state’s certified ballot.
Legal background
Burks’s campaign biography describes her as a former prosecutor and a criminal defense attorney. It says she attended the University of Texas at Austin, earned a law degree from Texas Southern University and passed the Texas bar in 1997.
According to the campaign, she worked as a prosecutor in Fort Bend County before joining Tarrant County in 1999. She became a felony court chief and later deputy chief over the criminal division. The current biography identifies her as a partner and criminal division lead at Varghese Summersett.
Campaign priorities
Burks’s current platform calls for vigorous prosecution of violent and predatory crime while protecting constitutional rights. She supports expanding youth diversion programs and building community partnerships that address homelessness, mental illness and addiction.
She also advocates sound legal advice to county government, greater transparency and proper investigation of deaths in custody. Those are her stated campaign priorities, not findings about particular cases.
