A free tree-planting event comes to Grapevine's Meadowmere Park on Saturday, Nov. 7, hosted by Keep Grapevine Beautiful.

The two-hour event runs from 9 to 11 a.m. Citizen Foresters will teach participants about tree care and why trees matter to the community, according to the group's event page. No experience is needed, and all supplies are provided.

The event is open to all ages. Children 14 and younger must be accompanied by an adult.

Keep Grapevine Beautiful, a volunteer organization under Grapevine city government, describes the planting as a celebration of Texas Arbor Day. The official Texas Arbor Day falls on the first Friday in November, which this year lands on Nov. 6. The Saturday event gives working families an extra day to take part.

Texas holds its Arbor Day in November rather than April because the state's heat can stretch from late spring into late fall, making the cooler weeks of early November a better window for young trees to take root, according to Keep Texas Beautiful. The tradition dates to 1889, when W. Goodrich Jones rallied residents of Temple for the state's first Arbor Day observance.

Grapevine holds a Tree City USA designation. The program, administered by the Arbor Day Foundation and the National Association of State Foresters, requires communities to maintain a tree board, a tree-care ordinance, a forestry budget of at least $2 per capita and an annual Arbor Day observance, according to a Wikipedia listing of participating cities. The Nov. 7 planting doubles as the city's annual observance.

Each year a different Texas city is chosen to host the statewide Texas Arbor Day celebration. A host city must hold the Tree City USA designation and apply through the Texas A&M Forest Service, Keep Texas Beautiful said.

Keep Grapevine Beautiful said on its website that more than 2,000 volunteers contributed service valued at more than $250,000 to the Grapevine community in 2025. The organization's stated mission is empowering the community through engagement and environmental stewardship.
