Shehla Faizi is the Green Party candidate for Texas comptroller of public accounts in the Nov. 3, 2026, general election. The certified candidate list also names Republican Don Huffines, Democrat Sarah Eckhardt and Libertarian V. Alonzo Echevarria-Garza.

Experience and education

In a Surround Sound Media questionnaire submitted Oct. 5, Faizi said this is her first run for office. She described herself as the host of the podcast “I’m A Muslim (And That’s Okay!)” and said she holds a master’s degree in strategic communication.

Questionnaire priorities

Faizi said she is running to bring transparency and fairness to the comptroller’s office. She said she refuses PAC and lobbyist donations and would hire qualified economists and subject-matter experts to produce revenue estimates independently of political pressure.

She opposes school vouchers and said she would use legal means and public pressure to end the program and support equitable public-school funding. On property taxes, she said policymakers should identify sustainable replacement revenue before eliminating school-district taxes. She expressed support for exploring income or wealth taxes, while acknowledging political obstacles.

Faizi proposed ending the sales-tax exemption for data centers and making the comptroller’s website easier to use, with English and Spanish information and clear charts covering budgets, revenues, spending and debt.

These positions come from her submitted questionnaire and are attributed to her.
