Southlake residents who want a say in local parks, library programs, public art or senior services have until Friday, Sept. 4, to apply for a seat on one of six city boards and commissions.
Mayor Shawn McCaskill and the City Council will make appointments at their Tuesday, Oct. 20, meeting, according to an announcement from the city published Monday, Aug. 17. Each appointment carries a one- or two-year term unless it fills an unexpired vacancy.
The six bodies accepting applications are:
- Parks and Recreation Board — nine residents who advise the council on park planning and programming
- Library Board — oversees library services and programming
- Southlake Arts Council — seven members focused on public art and cultural events
- Senior Advisory Commission — seven residents plus two alternates addressing senior services
- Advisory Commission on Persons with Disabilities — advocates for accessibility in city programs
- Metroport Teen Court — a regional board of nine members from Southlake, Grapevine and Colleyville that handles youth diversion cases
The city wrote in its announcement that it is seeking residents who want to be engaged in their community and help support the council in its mission.
The Parks and Recreation Board runs on a staggered two-year cycle. The council filled four seats on that board in June via Resolution No. 26-022, appointing Joe Sansone, Paul Simon, Deanna Kienast and John Thane to terms expiring in June 2028. The October round covers additional seats coming open on that board and the five others.
We reported Aug. 15 that the city's Youth Action Commission is also recruiting, though that program targets high school students with an Aug. 21 deadline. The adult boards announced Monday are a separate process.

The application window closes Sept. 4. The council's next action on these appointments is the Oct. 20 meeting.
