Southlake Carroll faces its toughest test yet Friday night when No. 1 Allen visits Dragon Stadium for the Dragons' 2026 home opener.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at 1085 S. Kimball Ave. in Southlake. The game is designated First Responders Night, according to the Dragon Sports Network. CBS Sports Texas named the matchup its Game of the Week.

The Eagles (2-0) arrive as the top-ranked team in Texas by MaxPreps after dismantling Duncanville 26-7 and DeSoto 50-6 to open the season. That's a combined 76-13 margin. Allen's defense allowed just 13 total points in those two games, recording 13 tackles for loss and five sacks against DeSoto alone, The Dallas Morning News reported.

Sophomore quarterback Ty Snell, a four-star recruit, leads the Allen offense. Against DeSoto, Snell threw four touchdowns on just seven pass attempts, finishing with 169 yards. Through two games he has completed 72 percent of his passes with six touchdowns and two interceptions, according to Texas Football.

His favorite target, sophomore Zach Williams, caught four passes for 99 yards and three scores in the DeSoto rout. The Snell-Williams tandem holds more than 70 combined college offers.

Carroll (1-1) enters the matchup after a 40-10 loss to North Crowley on Sept. 4. The Dragons dropped from No. 3 to No. 9 in the High School Football America Texas Top 25. Against North Crowley, junior quarterback Hudson Tomcheck completed 10 of 21 passes for 175 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Carroll ran 64 plays and recorded 23 first downs but managed only 10 points.

Carroll assistant coach Jason Jaynes told Dragon Media the early-season gauntlet is by design.

"Whenever you start a season playing tough opponents, it really allows you to see where your weaknesses are. It forces you to know where you need to improve," Jaynes said.

Carroll opened Aug. 27 with a 34-33 comeback win over 18-time Oklahoma state champion Jenks at the Cotton Bowl. Senior receiver Brody Knowles, a three-star Illinois pledge, had seven catches for 180 yards and two touchdowns in that game. Tomcheck threw for 322 yards and accounted for four touchdowns in his first varsity start, the Dallas Morning News reported.

Head coach Lee Munn, who replaced Riley Dodge after Dodge left for an SMU coaching role, explained the scheduling philosophy in an Aug. 18 Star-Telegram preview.

Munn said the team has 17 new starters and needed to find out early what it had. "We jumped in head first," he said.

Knowles, Tomcheck and the rest of Carroll's offense will need to protect the ball against Allen's aggressive front. Jaynes said turnovers were a point of emphasis in practice leading into the Sept. 11 game.

Carroll also features California pledge Blake Gunter and Dez Bryant Jr., a transfer from Colleyville Heritage, at receiver.

Allen head coach Lee Wiginton, speaking after the Sept. 4 DeSoto win, said early non-district results don't define a season. He noted that a team sitting at 0-2 could still finish 14-2 and win a state championship.

Between the two programs, Allen and Carroll hold a combined 13 state championships.
