Robert H. Rockenbaugh Elementary in Southlake placed 12th out of 4,782 ranked Texas elementary schools in the U.S. News 2027 Best Public Elementary Schools list, scoring 99.77 out of 100.

That makes Rockenbaugh the highest-ranked elementary school in Southlake, Colleyville, Grapevine and Westlake. The rankings, based on 2023-2024 state assessment data, measure student performance in math and reading while accounting for socioeconomic factors.

Three other local schools landed in the top 40 statewide. Old Union Elementary, also in Southlake's Carroll ISD, ranked 26th with a 99.48 score. Glenhope Elementary in Colleyville placed 38th at 99.23. Both Carroll ISD schools and Glenhope earned "well above expectations" ratings in math and reading performance.

At Rockenbaugh, 92% of students scored at or above the proficient level in math and 93% in reading, according to U.S. News. Old Union posted 87% math proficiency and 90% reading proficiency. Glenhope came in at 85% in math and 90% in reading.

All three schools topped the Texas statewide averages of 44% in math and 51% in reading.

Heritage Elementary in Grapevine ranked 187th statewide with a score of 96.11. Its students scored 73% proficient in math and 88% in reading, still well above state averages.

Glenhope and Heritage both belong to the Grapevine-Colleyville ISD, where district-wide proficiency rates were 61% in math and 70% in reading.

Westlake Academy, the town of Westlake's K-12 charter school, ranked 193rd in the elementary category. U.S. News assessed only its third- through fifth-grade test results for the elementary ranking, per the publication's methodology. Westlake has no standalone public elementary school.

Carroll ISD's strong showing aligns with its track record. The district earned an overall "A" rating from the Texas Education Agency in August 2026, scoring 93 out of 100, according to a district announcement. All 11 Carroll ISD campuses received individual "A" ratings. It was the district's seventh consecutive "A" in every year TEA has issued A-F ratings since 2018.

Superintendent Dr. Jeremy Glenn said in the district's statement that the results reflect a commitment to excellence across all 11 campuses and credited students, teachers, staff and families.

U.S. News analyzed 107,223 schools nationwide for the 2027 edition. Half of each school's score came from raw test performance and half factored in results relative to socioeconomic characteristics. Student-teacher ratios served as a tiebreaker.
