Colleyville kids ages 6 to 12 can learn pickleball starting Thursday, Sept. 10, when a six-week instructional program begins at City Park's eight outdoor courts.
Colleyville Parks and Recreation is partnering with Jump Start Sports Fort Worth, a youth multi-sport franchise operating across Tarrant, Denton and Wise counties, to offer structured beginner instruction split into two age groups. Children ages 6 to 8 meet Thursdays from 6 to 6:45 p.m., and players ages 9 to 12 follow from 7 to 7:45 p.m. The session runs through Thursday, Oct. 15.
The program costs $90 and equipment is provided.
According to the program description, participants will work on court positioning, grip fundamentals, forehand and backhand groundstrokes, dinking, serving and basic rally skills using age-appropriate gear. The city describes the classes as emphasizing fun, movement and confidence-building.
The offering arrives as pickleball's player base skews younger nationally.
Forbes reported in August that the sport's median player age has dropped from roughly 40 to 35, with Gen Z players ages 13 to 25 now representing its largest demographic group. Participation has grown approximately 170% over three years.
Locally, demand has already shaped city planning. A city Q&A document noted that "the significant growing demand for indoor pickle ball courts is creating additional demand for gym space," citing it as one factor behind the city's purchase of the Recreation Center property. Colleyville's Youth Spring Volleyball League drew 450 players across 45 teams in spring 2026, according to a July 2026 Parks and Recreation Advisory Board report, signaling broad appetite for organized youth athletics in the city.
Registration is handled directly through the instructor at the Jump Start Sports Fort Worth website. Families seeking more information can contact Colleyville Recreation Center staff at 817-503-1180.
