Southlake's annual curbside leaf recycling program starts Nov. 18. Six collection weeks run through early January, giving residents a way to divert yard waste from the landfill.
Pickup day depends on a household's regular trash schedule. Residents with Monday and Thursday trash service will have leaf collection on Wednesdays. Those on a Tuesday and Friday schedule will have Saturday pickups.
Monday/Thursday trash customers (Wednesday leaf pickup):
- Nov. 18
- Dec. 2
- Dec. 9
- Dec. 16
- Dec. 30
- Jan. 6, 2027
Tuesday/Friday trash customers (Saturday leaf pickup):
- Nov. 21
- Dec. 5
- Dec. 12
- Dec. 19
- Jan. 2, 2027
- Jan. 9, 2027
No leaf collection will occur Nov. 28 or Dec. 26 because of the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays, according to the city's Trash & Recycling page.
Bags must be at the curb by 7 a.m. on collection day and kept separate from household trash. Any type of bag works, but each must weigh 50 pounds or less.
Acorns, twigs and other small debris may be included, though the city asks residents to limit those materials. Bins and boxes will not be accepted.
The collected leaves are composted into mulch. Sources differ on the program's cumulative total. Huff said at the Oct. 20 meeting that over 3,600 tons of leaves have been diverted from the landfill since the program began. The city's recycling programs page lists the figure at over 1,900 tons.
Residents can bag leaves with regular trash year-round, but those bags go to the landfill rather than recycling.
Christmas tree recycling runs Dec. 14 through Jan. 15, 2027, at Bicentennial Park, 450 W. Southlake Blvd. Trees must be free of ornaments, lights, tinsel and other decorations. Flocked trees have a separate bin at the drop-off site. The site is open dawn to dusk.
The city's eighth annual Holiday Grease Roundup accepts used cooking oil and grease from Nov. 1 through Jan. 31, 2027, at the Public Works Operations Center, 1950 East Continental Blvd. Motor oil will not be accepted.
