Southlake Carroll junior outfielder Aiden Choo committed to the University of Oklahoma to play college baseball, announcing the decision on Instagram on Wednesday, Oct. 21.

Choo is the son of former Texas Rangers All-Star Shin-Soo Choo, who spent 16 seasons in Major League Baseball and seven with the Rangers.

"I'm grateful and excited to announce my commitment to the University of Oklahoma to continue my academic and baseball career," Aiden Choo wrote on Instagram, as first reported by the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. He thanked his family, coaches and teammates for their support.

The younger Choo carries a Perfect Game Player Grade of 10, the highest mark available on the national scouting service's scale. The service lists him as a 6-foot-1, 200-pound outfielder and right-handed pitcher in the Class of 2028, noting his "loose and fluid swing with present bat speed and impact."

Before transferring to Southlake Carroll, Choo played his sophomore season at IMG Academy in Florida. He posted a .371 batting average, a .487 on-base percentage, five home runs and 15 stolen bases with a perfect fielding percentage, according to the Star-Telegram. No stats from his time at Carroll have been published.

His commitment adds to the momentum around a Carroll baseball program with five state titles. The Dragons squeezed into the 2026 playoffs with a 6-8 record in District 4-6A, preserving a playoff streak that dates to 1999, and won a bi-district series. Carroll leaned heavily on underclassmen that season, starting eight sophomores.

With that young core now a year older, the Star-Telegram reported Carroll could contend for district and state titles with Choo among the returning talent.

Shin-Soo Choo, born in South Korea, signed a seven-year, $130 million contract with the Rangers before the 2014 season. He made his lone MLB All-Star team in 2018, the same year he reached base in 52 consecutive games, a single-season franchise record. He finished his major-league career with 1,671 hits, 218 home runs and a .275 batting average. In 2015, he became the first Asian-born player to hit for the cycle in MLB. He retired after the 2024 KBO League season in South Korea.

Oklahoma competes in the Southeastern Conference. Aiden Choo will be eligible to join the Sooners for the 2028-29 school year.
