Colleyville residents can learn to line dance and two-step for free this September, with classes leading up to the city's annual Boot Scootin' Saturday Night celebration at Heroes Park, which opened in June.

Colleyville Parks and Recreation announced the programming Aug. 24. Instructor Suzy Ashmore will teach line dancing every Thursday in September from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Colleyville Recreation Center, 2512 Glade Rd. Space is limited. Registration is required through the city's Active Communities portal.

The classes build toward Boot Scootin' Saturday Night on Saturday, Sept. 26. The City of Colleyville said on Instagram the event is returning with expanded hours and a new home at Heroes Park, running from 6 to 10 p.m.

Instructor Blake Elder will kick things off with a free two-step class from 6 to 7 p.m. Live music from Big City Outlaws follows from 7 to 10 p.m. A mechanical bull is new this year, along with food trucks selling food and beverages.

Heroes Park sits just south of City Hall and honors local veterans with a two-sided stage designed for community gatherings. At least 193 veterans were recognized at the park's grand opening on June 26.

Mayor Bobby Lindamood told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram in a June article, "We wanted people to be able to come out and enjoy community events. It's got a two-sided stage on it ... it's the perfect park, really and truly."

Boot Scootin' Saturday Night previously ran at a different venue with shorter hours. The move to Heroes Park expands the event to four hours.

Registration for the Thursday line dancing classes is open now at apm.activecommunities.com. More information about Boot Scootin' Saturday Night is available at colleyville.com/bootscootin.
