Colleyville residents who served in the U.S. military can pick up a free commemorative lawn sign at City Hall before Veterans Day on Wednesday, Nov. 11.
The city is offering the signs to any resident with military service and to Gold Star Families who want to honor a loved one, as first reported by Local News Only on Oct. 6. The signs are available on the third floor of City Hall, at 100 Main St., in the City Manager's Office. Residents must bring proof of residency.
The city's announcement labels the program as new. Questions can be directed to [email protected].
Colleyville's veteran recognition efforts
The lawn signs are the latest in a series of efforts by Colleyville to recognize its military residents.
In April 2025, the City Council issued a proclamation declaring Colleyville a Purple Heart City, honoring service members wounded or killed in combat. The proclamation was presented during the April 15, 2025, council meeting at City Hall, according to a city press release.
In June, the city planned the opening of Heroes Park at City Hall, a space dedicated to honoring local veterans. The park was set to launch with recognition of at least 193 veterans and has room for around 430 spots, with space to expand, the Star-Telegram reported. Mayor Bobby Lindamood told the Star-Telegram in April that the project mattered to the entire community.
"It's a big deal to not only honor our community heroes, but our heroes abroad that have served in the military that are originally from Colleyville," Lindamood said.
In November 2025, three Colleyville citizens received Congressional Veteran Commendations from Congresswoman Beth Van Duyne. The recipients were First Sgt. Robert Hazlewood, U.S. Marine Corps (Ret.); Sgt. Eric Newton, U.S. Army (Ret.); and Capt. James Palmersheim, U.S. Army (Ret.).
Three Vietnam veterans also received Vietnam Veteran Lapel Pins at the same ceremony, according to a city press release. Lindamood attended the recognition ceremony hosted by Van Duyne.
