GCISD wants to hear from graduates.

Grapevine-Colleyville ISD on Wednesday, Sept. 2, launched "Living the Legacy," a program inviting alumni to submit stories about their careers, growth and paths since graduation. The district said it wants alumni stories to motivate current students and highlight the difference public education has made in their lives, according to a GCISD announcement.

GCISD said it is seeking stories from alumni "across the globe" and has posted an online submission form on its program page. The district has not announced a submission deadline or detailed how the stories will be shared.

The program arrives as Superintendent Dr. Jason Adams, who started in June, has spoken about families' multigenerational connections to the district. In an Aug. 20 interview with Community Impact, Adams described a pattern he hears repeatedly from residents.

"I chose to come to GCISD because I wanted to live in this community, and I wanted to send my kids to GCISD schools," Adams said, paraphrasing what families tell him. "You have people that go through this system, their parents moved here to send their kids through our schools. They move away for college and career, and ultimately, they come back to the community …"

The launch comes during a period of change for the 18-campus district. The board voted in December 2025 to close Dove and Bransford elementary schools because of declining enrollment, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Adams told Community Impact in August that GCISD sends close to $30 million a year back to the state under Texas' recapture formula, adding financial pressure as the district works to keep teacher salaries competitive. In June, the board approved a $1.8 million compensation package setting a $60,000 starting salary for certified teachers.

At the same time, GCISD earned an overall A rating from the Texas Education Agency (TEA) for 2025-26, scoring 91 points, up from 86 the prior year, according to Community Impact. Eleven of its 18 campuses received individual A ratings.
