Grapevine Public Library hosts a full day of Dolly Parton-themed activities for families on Friday, Sept. 25. Storytime, live music, miniature horses and a dance party run from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The event falls on what the Dollywood Foundation designated as "Give Like Dolly Day." The date, 9/25, is a nod to Parton's famous song and film "9 to 5." It will be the first such observance since Parton's death on Aug. 25 in Nashville at age 80.
Parton founded the Imagination Library in 1995 in honor of her father, Robert Lee Parton, who was unable to read or write, according to Aleteia.
What's on the schedule
The library's official calendar listing lays out four activities across the day:
- 10 a.m.–4:30 p.m.: Art Cart, open all day
- 10:30–11 a.m.: Storytime with Ramblin' Rita
- 11 a.m.–noon: Joyful Hooves
- 4–4:30 p.m.: Dolly Disco
Ramblin' Rita is a storytelling cowgirl performer listed with the Texas Commission on the Arts. She brings children's literature to life through interactive performances aimed at preK through fifth-grade audiences, recruiting kids from the crowd to help tell her tales with costumes and props.
Joyful Hooves is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that rescues miniature horses and donkeys and brings them to schools and libraries. Children read aloud to the animals to build reading fluency and confidence. The organization visited Grapevine Public Library on June 11 for a similar program.
