Grapevine library launches free outdoor board game afternoons at downtown plaza

The Grapevine Public Library is moving board games outside this summer, launching a free series on the picnic tables at Ted R. Ware Plaza beginning tomorrow.

"Board Games at the Plaza" runs from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. on four Saturdays through fall at the plaza adjacent to the Settlement to City Museums, 206 W. Hudgins St. in historic downtown Grapevine. The library will supply a selection of games, and attendees can bring their own to share. All ages are welcome.

The event is free, but registration is required. Residents can sign up by searching "Board Games at the Plaza" on GrapevineTexasUSA.com.

Organizers encourage guests to pack snacks and drinks for the afternoon.

Context for the series

The outdoor plaza sessions complement an existing indoor program at the library. The Grapevine Public Library hosts a Board Game Meet-Up for Adults on the first and third Saturdays of each month at the library building, limited to ages 18 and older. The new plaza series opens the format to families and kids.

On Saturday, July 25, the library is also running a Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition campaign session at 11:30 a.m. at the library building, giving game fans multiple options that day.

About the plaza

Ted R. Ware Plaza is a landscaped green space in the heart of Grapevine's historic district. It features a public art installation called "Prairie Water," built around a 1938 Aeromotor Windmill, a historic water tank, and a windmill blade fountain. The Settlement to City Museums complex surrounding the plaza is open seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
