Southlake Public Library has welcomed more than 3 million visitors since it opened on Sept. 26, 2001. The city is marking the quarter-century milestone with a yearlong celebration.
The library has circulated more than 8 million items and hosted programs for more than 735,000 people over its 25 years, according to the City of Southlake. Mayor Shawn McCaskill, City Librarian Cynthia Pfledderer and Library Manager Jennifer Tucker highlighted those figures in the latest SLK City Spotlight video, posted Oct. 5.
The video traces the library's growth from its 2001 opening through 25 years of awards and community partnerships. McCaskill reflected on the library's role in Southlake, while Pfledderer and Tucker walked viewers through memories and milestones.
Residents can pick up a limited-edition 25th Birthday Library card at the customer service desk. The special card will be available over the next year, and cardholders can request an upgrade or sign up for a new one.
The library is also inviting patrons to help build a community memory quilt. Visitors can grab a paper square during regular hours, decorate it with a favorite library memory and drop it in a collection basket. Finished squares are added to a growing display on the library's wall.
The quilt keeps growing.
The anniversary comes as the library's staff earns recognition of its own. Circulation Coordinator Rebecca Conkle received the City of Southlake 2026 Employee Performance Accountability Value Award for her work supporting the volunteer program. "I want them to feel prepared, confident and valued in the work that they are doing," Conkle said in an August profile of her award.
The Southlake Public Library is at 1400 Main St., Suite 130, and can be reached at (817) 748-8243.
