Southlake will turn Legends Hall into a one-night history museum on Wednesday, Sept. 16, showcasing nine exhibits that trace the city back to its 1956 founding.

"Our Southlake: 70 Years in the Making" runs from 5 to 7 p.m. at The Marq Southlake. The City of Southlake and the Southlake Historical Society are co-hosting the event, according to an announcement on My Southlake News.

The exhibits draw from past Historical Society Town Hall displays and cover the people, places and moments that shaped the city.

That history stretches back well before the incorporation vote. Families had already built homes, farms, schools, churches and businesses across the area by the time 54 residents gathered at the 1919 Carroll School on Sept. 25, 1956.

They voted 30–24 to incorporate.

The new town measured just 1.62 square miles and was home to only a few hundred people.

Mayor Shawn McCaskill promoted the event on X on Wednesday, Sept. 2, highlighting a painting of Fechtel Farm, the land that became Southlake Town Square, as one of the featured pieces.

The Historical Society has collected photographs, oral histories and research over the years to document the city's past. Society President Connie Cooley described that mission in a July 24 interview with 360 West Magazine about a separate summer exhibit on Texas in 1776, noting that Southlake had no "redcoats, patriots or Paul Reveres" but still had deep roots worth documenting.

Two longtime Southlake restaurants will provide food at the Sept. 16 event. Feedstore BBQ has operated at 530 S. White Chapel Blvd. since April 2001 in a building that was originally the Bailey Feed Store in the late 1950s, according to the restaurant's website. Armend's Pizza & Pasta has been in Southlake since 1998.
