The Chess Wizards camp at the Colleyville Recreation Center runs Monday, August 3 through Friday, August 7, from 9 a.m. to noon each day.

The camp is open to children ages 5–11 and costs $268 per camper, according to the city's parks and recreation program listing published July 18.

Chess Wizards is a national organization that operates scholastic chess programs at schools, park districts, and community centers across the U.S. and Canada. The Colleyville session brings the group's interactive curriculum to the Recreation Center at 5008 Roberts Road.

Campers rotate through chess lessons, team chess games, tournaments, puzzles, and recess time, with snacks provided. Each child takes home a T-shirt, trophy, and puzzle folder. All materials are included in the fee.

The program description from Colleyville Parks and Recreation says campers will "improve your chess skills, meet new friends, and work out your most powerful muscle, your brain."

The Aug. 3–7 session falls in the final week of Colleyville's 11-week summer camp season, which began Tuesday, May 26 and wraps Friday, August 7. The city is offering 66 camps total this summer, according to a report presented at the July 6 Parks and Recreation Advisory Board meeting. At that point, 39 camps had already been completed, serving 667 campers.
