Hudgins Street in Grapevine is closed to through traffic between Main Street and Dooley Street for utility work, with the closure expected to last through mid-November.

The full closure blocks all through traffic on the stretch, though access is maintained for businesses along the route, according to Northeast News. Drivers should plan alternate routes when traveling in the area.

The city has not publicly specified what type of utility work is being performed or which contractor is handling the project. No precise start date for the closure has been announced.

The closure comes as Grapevine is in the middle of broader infrastructure upgrades. Grapevine City Council on Oct. 20 approved a $3.5 million contract with Ruts Construction for citywide water and sewer main replacements and storm drainage improvements, Community Impact reported. That contract spans 12 to 18 months and covers water, sewer and storm replacements, extensions and relocations.

Whether the Hudgins Street closure is part of that contract is unclear.

The city's public works department requested the contract after discovering several valves in the water distribution system were not functioning. Public Works Director Bryan Beck told Community Impact that a 20-inch water main broke at the service center last winter. Staff had to conduct an emergency repair because a broken valve was stuck in the open position, Beck said.

The department then tested more than 9,000 valves across the system. Work completed in August showed 32 were non-functional, Community Impact reported.

Grapevine residents who need to travel through the Hudgins Street area between Main Street and Dooley Street should use alternate routes until the closure lifts in mid-November. The city has not announced a specific reopening date.
