Maman, a French-inspired cafe and bakery born in New York City, is under construction at 1161 E. Southlake Blvd. in Southlake Town Square with a late January target to open.
The Southlake location will be the first Maman in Tarrant County, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram first reported Oct. 25.
A second Tarrant County cafe is planned for Fort Worth's Westbend shopping center, with construction set to begin in November.
A state permit filing shows the Southlake project is a $400,000 tenant finish-out of an existing 2,571-square-foot lease space. Construction began Oct. 7, with a listed completion date of Jan. 29, 2027.
The tenant is funding the build-out with private funds, according to the filing. The permit's status is listed as review complete.
Co-founders Benjamin Sormonte, from the south of France, and Elisa Marshall, from Toronto, opened the first Maman in Manhattan's SoHo neighborhood in 2014.
The name means "mother" in French. The pair started the cafe as a nod to their mothers and childhood experiences in the kitchen, according to the Star-Telegram.
The chain gained a following with storefronts styled like a rustic French country kitchen, decorated with blue toile dishes.
Its nutty chocolate chip cookie landed on Oprah Winfrey's 2017 favorite things list.
In the past year, Maman has collaborated with Martha Stewart on limited seasonal menu items and coffee beans.
The regular menu includes baked goods, quiches, sandwiches, salads and specialty drinks such as a salted tahini honeycomb latte.
Maman's first North Texas location opened at Preston Center in Dallas in 2025, the chain's 50th store, according to Maman's website.
All Maman cafes are company-owned, not franchised.
The Southlake cafe is one of six planned North Texas locations, WFAA reported. The Fort Worth store is planned for 1701 S. University Drive, with a March completion target.
Town Square, which spans 130 acres with more than 135 shops and restaurants, has seen a string of new tenants in 2026.
Jason Kasal, vice president and senior leasing director at Kite Realty Group, which owns and operates Town Square, told the Star-Telegram in February that the center is "seeing some off-the-charts numbers in terms of sales."
No specific opening date beyond the Jan. 29 construction deadline has been announced for the Southlake cafe.
