Grapevine Public Library will host a free virtual talk with Divergent author Veronica Roth on Tuesday, Sept. 15, at 6 p.m. The online event marks the 15th anniversary of Roth's blockbuster young adult series and gives attendees an early look at her upcoming novel, The Sixth Faction.

Registration is required through the city's event calendar.

The Sixth Faction reimagines the story of protagonist Beatrice Prior through an alternate-universe lens. Instead of joining the Dauntless faction, Prior faces tragedy at her Choosing Ceremony that thrusts her into an underground rebellion, where she encounters "a boy with only a number for a name," according to the library's event listing. The novel is the first in a planned duology, with a sequel set for Feb. 2, 2027, according to ELLE. The Sixth Faction hits shelves Oct. 6.

Roth, a No. 1 New York Times bestselling author, wrote the original Divergent during her senior year at Northwestern University and sold the movie rights before she graduated. First published April 26, 2011, the series has sold more than 40 million copies worldwide and spawned a film franchise starring Shailene Woodley and Theo James, ELLE reported. Roth announced The Sixth Faction at BookCon in New York City earlier in 2026, where she also celebrated a 15th-anniversary deluxe edition of Divergent.

In a 2026 interview with ELLE, Roth described the new project as a creative milestone. "In many ways, [The Sixth Faction] is the culmination of all the work I've done, not just on myself, but on my writing," she said. "I put everything I learned into this."

She told Mashable earlier in 2026 that returning to the Divergent universe helped her reconnect with the series. Writing the new books made her feel less "stuck in the past" and more focused on what she is creating now, she said.

Attendees who register can submit questions for Roth during the live conversation. The library is located at 1201 Municipal Way in Grapevine.
