The North Gym at The REC of Grapevine will shut down Monday, Oct. 19, for structural wall repairs expected to last three to four weeks.
The closure was first reported by Community Impact Newspaper. Claire Gilbert, Grapevine Parks and Recreation marketing manager, described the scope of the project.
"The main focus of the renovations will be the walls of the gym, which will be repaired and reinforced during the construction," Gilbert said.
Two BallFX basketball programs will relocate to the South Gym during the work. Wednesday private lessons move first, starting Oct. 21.
The Monday basketball program will also shift to the South Gym during the closure period.
No other amenities or programs at The REC will be affected. The aquatic center, fitness rooms, racquetball courts and indoor playground will stay open, according to the facility's GoGrapevine listing.
The REC of Grapevine is at 1175 Municipal Way.
The Grapevine Parks and Recreation Board is scheduled to meet Thursday, Oct. 15, at 6 p.m. at 225 West Worth St. That meeting falls four days before the North Gym closure begins. No published agenda for the session was available as of Wednesday, Oct. 7, so it is unclear whether the repairs will be discussed.
If the work stays on the three-to-four-week timeline, the North Gym would reopen in mid-to-late November.
