More than 1,000 dogs, cats, and small pets will be available for adoption at $25 or less when the Humane Society of North Texas holds its 11th annual MEGA Adoption Event on Saturday, Aug. 15, and Sunday, Aug. 16, at the Amon G. Carter Jr. Exhibits Hall in Fort Worth.

The event brings together more than 35 North Texas shelters, and HSNT operates a year-round adoption center in Keller, making the organization a familiar name for Northeast Tarrant pet owners.

But the organization needs help before the animals arrive. HSNT is collecting blankets, chews, and treats to keep pets comfortable during the two-day weekend, and donations must be received by Saturday, Aug. 8, to be used at the event. Residents can purchase items through HSNT's Amazon Wish List or make a monetary donation at hsnt.org.

Last year, 760 pets found homes at the MEGA event. HSNT hopes to top that figure in 2026, with more than 5,000 attendees expected, according to NBC DFW.

Since the event launched, more than 6,500 pets total have been placed through the annual adoption weekend, NBC DFW reported.

Admission is free. Adoption fees of $25 or less include spay or neuter surgery, microchipping, and age-appropriate vaccinations, according to Southlake Style. Adopted pets go home the same day.

Pets cannot be reserved in advance. For those who want first pick, an Early Bird Fast Pass costs $50 and grants entry from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday, one hour before general admission. Only 150 passes are available.

NBC DFW reports that free admission requires registration and a signed waiver at app.hsnt.org/register. HSNT's primary event listing does not mention the registration step, so prospective adopters should check hsnt.org for the latest requirements.

Cassie Davidson, HSNT's vice president of marketing, communications, and public relations, wrote in her July 29 "Fur Friday" column for the Fort Worth Report that each adoption frees space for another animal in HSNT's care.

The organization posted a 96% live release rate in 2025 and placed 5,562 pets through its adoption programs that year.

The venue sits at 3401 W. Lancaster Ave., Fort Worth, roughly 25 miles from Southlake and Colleyville. Volunteers are also needed for the event weekend; community members can sign up at hsnt.org to volunteer, donate supplies by Aug. 8, or show up Aug. 15–16 ready to adopt.
