Drivers passing through the Continental Boulevard and Davis Boulevard intersection in Southlake will hit a new traffic pattern starting Monday, July 20, when construction crews shift all vehicles onto the newly paved south side of the roadway.
The move clears the way for the contractor to begin work on the north side of Continental Boulevard, according to a city announcement published Thursday, July 17. Two-way traffic will stay open through the work zone, but the city is asking drivers to follow posted signs and use caution.
The city said this phase of construction should be substantially complete by fall 2026, weather and site conditions permitting.
Part of a larger project
The traffic shift is the latest step in Phase 2 of the West Continental Blvd. Intersection Improvements Project, which the City of Southlake's Public Works department is overseeing. Phase 2 kicked off Monday, April 13, with a northbound right lane closure on Davis Boulevard just south of the Continental intersection and a temporary lane added on the north side of Continental to keep traffic flowing.
When the city announced Phase 2 in April, it estimated the work would take approximately 10 months to complete and warned that traffic control in the area would change as construction progressed. The fall completion target announced July 17 applies to this specific traffic-shift phase, not necessarily all of Phase 2.
The broader project has been underway since November 2025. Phase 1 began Monday, November 3, 2025, closing Union Church Road from Davis Boulevard to Siena Drive for about eight months. The city has said the overall project aims to improve safety and efficiency at the intersection.
A new signal pole was installed at the northeast corner of the intersection on Saturday, June 27, requiring a one-day northbound right lane closure on Davis Boulevard.
What drivers need to know
Starting Monday, July 20:
- All traffic at Continental and Davis will move to the south side of the roadway.
- Two-way traffic remains open through the work zone.
- Posted signs will guide drivers through the construction area.
- The city asks motorists to allow extra travel time.
