Property tax rates for Southlake, Colleyville, Grapevine, Westlake and dozens of other Tarrant County taxing units will be proposed and adopted over the next two months, and homeowners can sign up to get email alerts each time a rate changes.
The Tarrant Appraisal District published its annual Notice of Estimated Taxes and Tax Rate Adoption Information on Wednesday, July 16, formally opening the budget season during which city councils, school boards and special districts set the rates that determine residents' tax bills.
How to track your rates
The TAD notice directs property owners to Texas.gov/propertytaxes, which links to the Tarrant County property tax database. That database will be updated throughout August and September as elected bodies propose and vote on rates.
Homeowners who want real-time updates can locate the "Receive Update" column on their property's page and check the box. The system sends email alerts when a property's market or taxable value changes, when a taxing unit's rate changes, or when a public hearing notice is posted or removed.
Texas law requires each taxing unit to hold a public hearing before adopting a new rate. Hearing dates will appear in the database and on each city's agenda center as they are scheduled. TAD also publishes finalized rates for all Tarrant County taxing units at tad.org/resources/rates.
Property owners can request contact information for the tax assessor of each taxing unit through the Tarrant County Tax Office at 817-884-1100.
What's already on the table
Some northeast Tarrant cities have begun floating proposed rates. The Westlake Development Corporation board reviewed a taxpayer impact statement at its Tuesday, July 14, meeting showing a proposed Town of Westlake rate of $0.185 per $100 of assessed value for Tax Year 2025, up from the adopted Tax Year 2024 rate of $0.16788. For the median-valued Westlake homestead, appraised at $2,644,800, that would mean a tax bill of $4,892.88, an increase of about $607 over the current year. The Westlake Town Council has not yet formally adopted the rate.
In Southlake, budget documents presented at City Council meetings earlier this fiscal year estimated the city's portion of the tax bill on an average-valued homestead ($915,814) would drop from $2,793 in FY2025 to $2,702 under the proposed FY2026 budget. Those figures predate the current rate-adoption cycle and may be revised before formal adoption.
Colleyville and Grapevine have not yet released proposed FY2026-27 tax rates.
No city officials from Southlake, Colleyville, Grapevine or Westlake were contacted for comment on this story.
