The Destination Grapevine Texas Women's Open has more than doubled its field in three years, growing from 46 professionals in 2024 to 106 in 2026 and drawing players from 19 countries and 28 states to Grapevine Golf Course, according to the Grapevine Convention & Visitors Bureau.
That rapid expansion helped secure a five-year extension keeping the tournament in Grapevine through 2031, as we reported Aug. 21.
The CVB and the Northern Texas PGA announced the renewed partnership, which totals $425,000 in sponsorship fees funded from the bureau's incentives fund.
The growth has been steep. When the tournament moved to Grapevine in 2024, it featured golfers from 12 countries and 15 states. By 2026, demand was high enough to require a play-in qualifier event ahead of the championship.
The CVB now calls it the largest state women's open in the United States.
Hasegawa wins in dramatic fashion
Sera Hasegawa, originally from Waco and now residing in Japan, captured the 2026 title with a final-round 64 that forced a sudden-death playoff against defending champion Sadie Englemann, Abbey Daniel and Katie Lu. Hasegawa won with back-to-back birdies on the 18th hole, finishing at 14-under-par (66-72-64) for her first professional victory.
She earned $13,250, a crystal trophy, custom-painted cowboy boots from RTown Art Gallery and an exemption into the Epson Tour's Island Resort Championship.
"In Japan, we don't have this kind of tournament, so that's the reason I'm here," Hasegawa said after her final-round victory. "… I didn't even set a goal today. I just felt like, okay, one shot, one moment, like that's it."
Hasegawa joins Canada's Maddie Szeryk (2024) and Sadie Englemann of Texas (2025) as champions since the tournament moved to Grapevine.
Local ties
The partnership includes a $5,000 annual college scholarship awarded to a Grapevine-Colleyville ISD senior competing on the Northern Texas PGA junior tour. In 2026, Audrey McCallum of Grapevine received the award. Coppell's Lauren Rios, competing for the third consecutive year, earned low amateur honors at 8-under-par.
Destination Grapevine will also serve as title sponsor of the Destination Grapevine Junior Texas Women's Open on the All-American Tour.
What's next
The 2027 tournament is scheduled for June 2–4, 2027, at Grapevine Golf Course, with a pro-am day on June 1. The minimum purse goal rises to $100,000 annually under the new deal. Admission remains free for spectators.
